FIRST APPROVAL OF THE WISAMO WINGSAIL MARKS THE TECHNOLOGY’S PROGRESS
The WISAMO wingsail was approved in January 2023 by the international classification society DNV, which granted the AIP - Approval In Principal - for the implementation of the wingsail on the Compagnie Maritime Nantaise (https://www.compagnie-maritime-nantaise.com) MN Pelican ro-ro ship, based on DNV's WAPS ST-0511 standard.
This recognition clearly shows the technological progress of WISAMO and is the first time an inflatable wingsail concept has been awarded approval! The wind engine has been launched, and a new solution for wind propulsion is now on its way.
NEW MILESTONE FOR THE WISAMO WINGSAIL
The WISAMO wingsail – second prototype in 100 sq.m size – has been installed on the ro-ro ship MN Pelican (of Compagnie Maritime Nantaise) since June 2023, to be tested under real conditions between Pool (UK) and Bilbao (Spain).
With more than 600 hours of operational testing, in static and dynamic modes, these trials validated technical aspects of our wind-powered innovation :
Robustness of the wingsail in the toughest conditions with very strong winter wind
The easy-to-use nature of the wingsail with the automatic system and the telescopic mast
The ability of the crew to operate the system completely independently without WISAMO staff on board
For WISAMO, this is an important milestone that validates the technical development for the next 800 sq. m wingsail (full scale format)
OUR ROLE IN THE WIND PROPULSION INDUSTRY
WISAMO is fully involved in the construction of the vessel propulsion sector and participates in national and international events dedicated to the decarbonization of maritime transport.
We are members of the Wind Ship Association, which brings together pioneering wind-powered companies in France and promotes cleaner, low-carbon shipping using wind power to propel commercial ships.
Our CEO is now a member of the Board of Directors and works to promote the value of wind-assisted shipping to national and international entities.
We are also active members of its international network, the International Windship Association, created in 2014.
